The Sierra Leonean international and FC Zurich central defender Umaru Bangura who can as well play in the midfield has slam the Ivorian team shortly after they drawn 1-1 away to Ivory Coast in the just concluded AFCON 2017 Qualifiers.

Umaru Bangura stressed that Ivory Coast won and qualified for the African Cup of Nations 2017 by chance, and he has questioned the strength of the Ivorian to defend the African Cup of Nations title.

"We could have knocked them out in Bouake, they were so lucky to qualify".
"I don't think they are one of the favourites to win the Nations Cup."
Ivory Coast who narrowly won the African Cup of Nations 2015 struggled to top Group I winning just 4 matches and drawn 3.
Umaru Bangura further added that "Ivory Coast were not that impressive in the qualifiers and I think they need to do more to raise their game if they're serious to defend their title".
"I also think they need to strengthen their squad, experienced players like Yaya Toure must be in the squad."
