Afcon 2017 Qualifiers Round Off - Qualified Teams

Afcon-2017-Qualifiers

It has really been fun since the commencement of AFCON 2017 Qualifiers on 8th April 2015 immediately after Gabon was declared the host nation of African Cup of Nations 2017 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The AFCON 2017 Qualifiers was really a difficult one that leaves big teams and big names excluded from AFCON 2017 due to inability to qualify for AFCON 2017.

3 Big teams that misses the ticket to Gabon 2017 includes:
  • Nigeria - 2013 AFCON winners
  • South Africa
  • Zambia - 2011 AFCON winners
Nigeria has done terribly bad since winning the African Cup of Nations title in 2013 hosted in South Africa. Nigeria has failed woefully in their AFCON qualifiers quest for 2 consecutive times, as they failed to qualify for the AFCON 2015 and 2017 respectively.

Teams to watch out for

Uganda

There were some impressive changes in team performance during the AFCON 2017 Qualifiers round off. Uganda who last participated in the AFCON tournament in 1978 luckily and narrowly made their way back on track as Group D runners-up with a total of 13 points from 6 matches, winning 4, drawn 1 and lost 1. This will make Uganda's appearance on the tournament 6th times.

Guinea-Bissau

No one would have ever thought to have Guinea-Bissau leading a Group where you have Zambia, Congo and Kenya. But surprisingly the have made it through. Guinea-Bissau have made a history since the advent of African Cup of Nations, as they have made it through the finals of AFCON 2017 Qualifiers for the very first time in history. They played a total of 6 matches, won 3, drawn 1 and lost 2 matches, emerging Group E leader with 10 points followed by Congo with 9 points. This is the first ever appearance of Guinea-Bissau in the African Cup of Nations tournament, Its a great milestone if you ask me.
