Ivory Coast skipper and four-time African Footballer of the year, Yaya Toure has announced his resignation from international football.

The 33-year old announced his retirement with a statement on his official Twitter account thanking the fans for their support in his 14 years with the Ivorian National Team.

The Manchester City midfielder made 102 appearances for the national team, scoring 19 goals.

He was part of the Ivorian team that won the African Cup of Nations in 2015.

The former Barcelona player also became the first man to win the African footballer of the year four times.

He won the award a record four consecutive times between 2011-2014.

He finished 2nd in the 2015 African Footballer Awards behind Borussia Dortmund and Gabonese International Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
